About your treatment
Botolinium Toxin has many applications in medicine. Cosmetic Botox injections are administered to 'smoothen' out frown lines that develop between the eye brows, smile lines (also known as crows' feet) and forehead creases.
Recent studies have also shown that Botox injections are beneficial in the treatment of certain types of headaches caused by muscle tension in the forehead area.
The effect of these injections lasts between 4 to 6 months, and can be repeated.
Before your treatment
Your surgeon would have assessed your suitability for the treatment at the initial consultation, in addition to identifying with you the areas that need treating.
The Procedure
This is done as an outpatient procedure and no anaesthetic is required. Very fine needles are used to inject the required amount of the Botox into the various sites.
After your procedure
No dressings are required and you can leave the clinic soon after.
After leaving the clinic
The following instructions are highly recommended (ref: ), to ensure maximum effectiveness of the treatment and minimize complications
- Do not touch the treated area for 3 - 4 hours.
- Sit up vertical for 3 - 4 hours.
- Use muscles of the treated area as much as possible for 3 - 4 hours.
Complications
1. Drooping of the eye lid (ptosis)
This may occur as a result of the Botox material affecting the muscle lifting the eye lid. This is rare and is minimized by following the above instructions and also by the controlling the injection site.
Should this happen it is temporary and the muscle will recover as the Botox effect wears off
